✧ A slave woman fled and joined the enemy, and the Muslims took her as booty. The Muradis recognized her, so they came to Abu Ubaydah b. al-Jarrah ؓ and said: 'Our slave woman fled from us.' He said: 'I have no knowledge about this matter, but I will write to the Commander of the Faithful, so wait for his letter.' The Muradis remained silent for a while, then he said: 'Umar's ؓ letter has come to me regarding your slave woman: if she has been divided into fifths and distributed, then that is the proper course; otherwise, return her to her owners.' They asked: 'By Allah, did Umar really write that?' He replied: 'By Allah, it is not lawful for me to lie.'
