قَالَ أَبُو يَعْلَى: حَدَّثَنَا الْجَرَّاحُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، حَدَّثَتْنِي قُتَيْلَةُ بِنْتُ جُمَيْعٍ، ثَنِي يَزِيدُ بْنُ حُنَيْفٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عُمَارَةَ بْنَ أَحْمَرَ الْمَازِنِيَّ، أَحَدَ بَنِي رَبِيعَةَ بْنِ مَازِنٍ قَالَ:

كُنْتُ فِي إِبِلٍ لِي أَرْعَاهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، فَغَارَتْ عَلَيْهَا خَيْلُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَوْ خَيْلُ أَصْحَابِهِ، فَجَمَعْتُ إِبِلِي وَرَكِبْتُ الْفَحْلَ فَتَفَاجَّ يَبُوبُ، فَنَزَلْتُ عَنْهُ وَرَكِبْتُ نَاقَةً مِنْهَا، فَنَجَوْتُ عَلَيْهَا وَسَاقُوا الْإِبِلَ، فَأَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَرَدَّهَا عَلَيَّ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ قَسَمَهَا بَعْدُ

✧ I was with some camels of mine that I was tending in the pre-Islamic era, and the cavalry of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or the cavalry of his companions, raided them. I gathered my camels and mounted the stallion, and it spread its forelegs and sped away. I dismounted from it and mounted a she-camel of theirs, and I escaped on it while they drove the camels away. I then came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he returned them to me, as he had not yet divided them.
