✧ Julaybib was a man from the Ansar, and he used to enter upon women and converse with them. Abu Barzah ؓ said: I said to my wife: Beware, let not Julaybib enter upon you! He said: The companions of the Prophet ﷺ, when one of them had an unmarried woman, they would not marry her off until they knew whether the Messenger of God ﷺ had a need for her or not. One day the Messenger of God ﷺ said to a man from the Ansar: "O so-and-so, marry your daughter to me!" He said: Yes, and a delight to the eye! He ﷺ said: "I do not want her for myself." He said: Then for whom? He ﷺ said: "For Julaybib." He said: O Messenger of God, let me consult her mother. He went and said: The Messenger of God ﷺ is proposing to your daughter. She said: Yes, and a delight to the eye! You are marrying the Messenger of God ﷺ! He said: He does not want her for himself. She said: Then for whom? He said: For Julaybib. She said: Woe to me! For Julaybib? No, by the life of God, I will not raise Julaybib. When her father got up to go to the Prophet ﷺ, the young woman said from her chamber to her parents: Who proposed to me to you? They said: The Messenger of God ﷺ. She said: Would you reject the command of the Messenger of God ﷺ? Give me to the Messenger of God ﷺ, for he will never waste me. Her father went to the Prophet ﷺ and said: She is yours to deal with. So he married her to Julaybib. Hammad said: Ishaq b. Abdullah b. Abi Talhah said to me: I said to Thabit: Do you know what he ﷺ supplicated for her? He said: O God, pour abundant good upon them, and do not make their livelihood a constant struggle! Thabit said: So he married her to him.
