✧ Requirement of Intention for the Fasting Person from the Night in Obligatory Fasting but Not in Voluntary Fasting

وَقَالَ مُسَدَّدٌ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ، ثَنَا لَيْثٌ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ، عَنْ بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ، ﷺ قَالَتْ:

كَانَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ يَجِيءُ فَيَدْعُو بِالطَّعَامِ فَلَا يَجِدُهُ، فَيَفْرِضُ الصَّوْمَ، قَالَتْ: وَرُبَّمَا جَاءَ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ وَعِنْدِي طُرْفَةٌ، فَنَقُولُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، لَوْلَا أَنَّكَ صَائِمٌ لَأَطْعَمْتُكَ، فَيَدْعُو فَيَأْكُلُ ﷺ

✧ The Prophet ﷺ would come and ask for food but not find any, so he would make the fast obligatory. She said: Sometimes he came while fasting and I had something special, so we would say: O Messenger of God, if only you were not fasting we would feed you. Then he would ask for it and eat ﷺ.
