81. ✧ Shaddad b. Aws from the Prophet ﷺ

   كُنْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَمَرَّ بِرَجُلٍ يَحْتَجِمُ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَفْطَرَ الْحَاجِمُ وَالْمَحْجُومُ

   ✧ I was with the Prophet ﷺ when he passed by a man being cupped. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "The cupper and the one cupped have broken their fast."

   خَصْلَتَانِ حَفِظْتُهُمَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، قَالَ: إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ يُحِبُّ الْإِحْسَانَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ؛ فَإِذَا ذَبَحْتُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا الذَّبْحَ، وَإِذَا قَتَلْتُمْ فَأَحْسِنُوا الْقِتْلَةَ، لِيُحِدَّ شَفْرَتَهُ ثُمَّ لِيُرِحْ ذَبِيحَتَهُ

   ✧ Two traits I memorized from the Prophet ﷺ. He said: "God, Mighty and Majestic, loves excellence in all things. So when you slaughter, slaughter well, and when you kill, kill well. Let each of you sharpen his blade and give ease to his animal."

   " مَنْ صَلَّى مُرَائِيًا فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ، وَمَنْ صَامَ مُرَائِيًا فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ، وَمَنْ تَصَدَّقَ مُرَائِيًا فَقَدْ أَشْرَكَ ". فَقَالَ عَوْفُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ: أَفَلَا يَعْمِدُ اللهُ إِلَى مَا كَانَ لَهُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ فَيَقْبَلَهُ وَيَدَعَ مَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ ؟ قَالَ: فَقَالَ شَدَّادٌ: أَنَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: قَالَ اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: أَنَا خَيْرُ شَرِيكٍ أَوْ قَسِيمٍ، مَنْ أَشْرَكَ بِي فَعَمَلُهُ قَلِيلُهُ وَكَثِيرُهُ لِشَرِيكِي وَأَنَا مِنْهُ بَرِيءٌ

   ✧ "Whoever prays to be seen has associated partners with God; whoever fasts to be seen has associated partners with God; whoever gives charity to be seen has associated partners with God." Awf b. Malik said: "Will God not intend what was for Him from that and accept it and leave aside what is other than that?" He said: Shaddad said: "I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'God, Mighty and Majestic, said: I am the best of partners, or the best of dividers. Whoever associates partners with Me, his deed, whether small or great, is for My partner, and I am free of it.'"

   " لَيَحْمِلَنَّ شِرَارُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ عَلَى مَنْ مَضَى مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ حَذْوَ الْقُذَّةِ بِالْقُذَّةِ

   ✧ "The worst of this community will surely follow those who came before them, just as one arrow feather matches another."

   " الْكَيِّسُ مَنْ دَانَ نَفْسَهُ وَعَمِلَ لِمَا بَعْدَ الْمَوْتِ، وَالْعَاجِزُ مَنْ أَتْبَعَ نَفْسَهُ هَوَاهَا وَتَمَنَّى عَلَى اللهِ

   ✧ "The shrewd one is he who calls himself to account and works for what comes after death, while the helpless one is he who lets his soul follow its desires and yet hopes in God."
