56. ✧ 'Uqbah b. 'Amir from the Prophet ﷺ

   لَمَّا أُنْزِلَتْ فَسَبِّحْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الْعَظِيمِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " اجْعَلُوهَا فِي الرُّكُوعِ، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: " اجْعَلُوهَا فِي سُجُودِكُمْ

   ✧ When 'So glorify the name of your Lord, the Most Great' was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Place it in your bowing.' When 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High' was revealed, the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Place it in your prostration.'

   " ثَلَاثُ سَاعَاتٍ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى أَنْ نُصَلِّيَ فِيهِنَّ أَوْ نَقْبُرَ فِيهِنَّ مَوْتَانَا: إِذَا طَلَعَتِ الشَّمْسُ بَازِغَةً حَتَّى تَرْتَفِعَ، وَحِينَ يَقُومُ قَائِمُ الظَّهِيرَةِ حَتَّى تَمِيلَ الشَّمْسُ، وَحِينَ تَضَيَّفُ لِلْغُرُوبِ حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ

   ✧ Three times the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to forbid us to pray in or to bury our dead: when the sun rises brightly until it ascends, when the sun stands still at midday until it declines, and when it turns yellow for setting until it sets.

   قَسَمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الضَّحَايَا بَيْنَ أَصْحَابِهِ فَصَارَتْ لِي جَذَعَةٌ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: ضَحِّ بِهَا

   ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ distributed sacrificial animals among his Companions, and I got a jadha'ah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Sacrifice it.'

   " أُنْزِلَ عَلَيَّ آيَاتٌ لَمْ يُرَ أَعْظَمُ مِنْهُنَّ

   ✧ Verses were revealed to me, none greater than them were ever seen.

   أَنَّهُمْ كَانُوا فِي سَفَرٍ، فَأَرَدْنَاهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ بِنَا فَأَبَى وَقَالَ: لِيَتَقَدَّمْ رَجُلٌ مِنْكُمْ حَتَّى أُحَدِّثَكُمْ لِمَ لَا أُصَلِّي بِكُمْ ! إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ أَمَّ قَوْمًا فَأَتَمَّ بِهِمُ الصَّلَاةَ فَلَهُ وَلَهُمْ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ كَانَ لَهُمُ التَّمَامُ وَلَهُ النُّقْصَانُ

   ✧ They were on a journey and we wanted him to lead us in prayer, but he refused and said: 'Let one of you go forward until I tell you why I will not lead you. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever leads a people in prayer and completes the prayer for them, then it is for him and for them; but if he does not, then for them is the completeness and for him is the deficiency.'

   قِيلَ لِعُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ: إِنَّ لَنَا جِيرَانًا يَشْرَبُونَ الْخَمْرَ وَيَفْعَلُونَ وَيَفْعَلُونَ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ لَهُ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: مَنْ رَأَى عَوْرَةً فَسَتَرَهَا كَانَ كَمَنْ أَحْيَا مَوْءُودَةً مِنْ قَبْرِهَا

   ✧ It was said to 'Uqbah b. 'Amir: 'We have neighbors who drink wine and do such and such.' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever sees a private matter and conceals it is like one who revives a buried infant from its grave.'

   " إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَيُدْخِلُ الثَّلَاثَةَ بِالسَّهْمِ الْوَاحِدِ الْجَنَّةَ؛ صَانِعَهُ يَحْتَسِبُ بِصَنْعَتِهِ الْخَيْرَ، وَالرَّامِيَ بِهِ، وَالْمُمِدَّ بِهِ

   ✧ Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will enter into Paradise three people because of a single arrow: the one who made it, seeking reward for his craft; the one who shoots it; and the one who hands it to him.

   " ارْمُوا وَارْكَبُوا، وَأَنْ تَرْمُوا أَحَبُّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ أَنْ تَرْكَبُوا، وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ يَلْهُو بِهِ الرَّجُلُ بَاطِلٌ إِلَّا رَمْيَ الرَّجُلِ بِقَوْسِهِ أَوْ تَأْدِيبَهُ فَرَسَهُ أَوْ مُلَاعَبَتَهُ امْرَأَتَهُ فَإِنَّهُنَّ مِنَ الْحَقِّ، وَمَنْ تَرَكَ الرَّمْيَ بَعْدَمَا عَلِمَهُ فَقَدْ كَفَرَ الَّذِي عَلِمَهُ

   ✧ Shoot and ride, but that you shoot is more beloved to me than that you ride. Everything a man amuses himself with is false except his shooting with his bow, training his horse, or playing with his wife, for these are from truth. Whoever abandons archery after having learned it has disbelieved in what he learned.

   تَوَضَّأْتُ فَدَخَلْتُ الْمَسْجِدَ وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: مَنْ تَوَضَّأَ فَأَحْسَنَ الْوُضُوءَ ثُمَّ صَلَّى صَلَاةَ الْمَكْتُوبَةِ يَحْفَظُهَا وَيَعْقِلُهَا حَتَّى يَقْضِيَهَا كَانَ كَيَوْمِ وَلَدَتْهُ أُمُّهُ

   ✧ I performed ablution and entered the mosque while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was delivering a sermon. I heard him say: 'Whoever performs ablution and does it well, then prays the prescribed prayer, guarding it and understanding it until he completes it, will be like the day his mother gave birth to him.'

    " مَنْ أَعْتَقَ رَقَبَةً كَانَ فِدَاؤُهُ مِنَ النَّارِ مَكَانَ كُلِّ عُضْوٍ عُضْوًا

    ✧ Whoever frees a slave, it will be his ransom from the Fire, limb for limb.

    خَطَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَرَأَ وَأَعِدُّوا لَهُمْ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ مِنْ قُوَّةٍ، فَقَالَ: أَلَا إِنَّ الْقُوَّةَ الرَّمْيُ، أَلَا إِنَّ الْقُوَّةَ الرَّمْيُ

    ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave a sermon and recited: 'And prepare against them whatever you are able of power.' Then he said: 'Verily, power is archery. Verily, power is archery.'
