55. ✧ 'Awf b. Malik from the Prophet ﷺ

   كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فِي سَفَرٍ، فَعَرَّسْنَا وَافْتَرَشَ كُلٌّ مِنَّا ذِرَاعَ رَاحِلَتِهِ، ثُمَّ انْتَبَهْتُ بَعْضَ اللَّيْلِ فَإِذَا لَيْسَ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ رَاحِلَةِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أَحَدٌ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ فَإِذَا أَنَا بِمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ وَعَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ قَائِمَيْنِ، فَقُلْتُ لَهُمَا: هَلْ رَأَيْتُمَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ فَقَالَا: لَا، وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ صَوْتًا، فَإِذَا مِثْلُ هَزِيزِ الرَّحَى، فَأَتَانَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ: " إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي آتٍ مِنْ رَبِّي عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَخَيَّرَنِي بَيْنَ أَنْ يُدْخِلَ نِصْفَ أُمَّتِي الْجَنَّةَ وَبَيْنَ الشَّفَاعَةِ فَاخْتَرْتُ الشَّفَاعَةَ "، فَقُلْنَا: نَنْشُدُكَ اللهَ وَالصُّحْبَةَ، لَمَا جَعَلْتَنَا مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِكَ ! فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " أَنْتُمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِي "، وَجَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ يَجِيءُ فَيَقُولُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، اجْعَلْنِي مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِكَ ! فَيَقُولُ: " أَنْتَ مِنْ أَهْلِ شَفَاعَتِي "، فَلَمَّا أَضَبُّوا عَلَيْهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُشْهِدُكُمْ أَنَّ شَفَاعَتِي لِمَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أُمَّتِي لَا يُشْرِكُ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا

   ✧ We were with the Prophet ﷺ on a journey, and we halted for rest, each of us spreading his camel's foreleg as a pillow. Then I woke during the night and found no one before the camel of the Messenger of God ﷺ, so I set out and came upon Muadh b. Jabal and Abdullah b. Qays standing. I said to them: Have you seen the Messenger of God ﷺ? They said: No. I heard a sound like the whirring of a millstone. Then the Messenger of God ﷺ came to us and said: "A messenger from my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, came to me and gave me the choice between admitting half of my community to Paradise and intercession, and I chose intercession." We said: We adjure you by God and by companionship to make us among the people of your intercession. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "You are among the people of my intercession." A man would come and say: O Messenger of God, make me among the people of your intercession, and he would say: "You are among the people of my intercession." When they crowded around him, the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "O God, I call you as witnesses that my intercession is for those of my community who die not associating anything with God."

   شَهِدْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى عَلَى جِنَازَةِ رَجُلٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ: اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ، وَاغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِمَاءٍ وَثَلْجٍ وَبَرَدٍ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ وَالْخَطَايَا كَمَا تُنَقِّي الثَّوْبَ الْأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ بِدَارِهِ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ وَأَهْلًا خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، وَقِهِ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابَ النَّارِ "، قَالَ عَوْفٌ: فَلَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي فِي ذَلِكَ الْمَوْطِنِ وَأَنَا أَتَمَنَّى أَنْ أَكُونَ مَكَانَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ لِمَا سَمِعْتُ مِنْ دُعَاءِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ لَهُ

   ✧ I witnessed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray over the funeral of a man from the Ansar, and I heard him say: 'O Allah, send blessings upon him, forgive him, have mercy on him, grant him well-being, pardon him, wash him with water, snow, and hail, purify him from sins and transgressions as a white garment is purified from dirt, give him in exchange for his abode a better abode and a family better than his family, and protect him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire.' 'Awf said: I saw myself in that place wishing I were in the place of the Ansari man because of what I heard of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicating for him.
