33. Chapter of Bā (Female)

   عَنْ بُسْرَةَ بِنْتِ صَفْوَانَ الْكِنانِيَّةِ وَكَانَتْ خَالَةُ مَرْوَانَ قَالَتْ سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلْ عَلَى إِحْدَانَا الْوُضُوءُ إِذَا مَسَّتْ فَرْجَهَا؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «مَنْ مَسَّ فَرْجَهُ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ وَالنِّسَاءِ فَعَلَيْهِ الْوُضُوءُ»

   ✧ From Busrah bint Safwan al-Kinaniyyah—and she was Marwan’s maternal aunt—she said: I asked the Messenger of God ﷺ, saying: O Messenger of God, is ablution required for any of us if she touches her private part? The Messenger of God ﷺ said: “Whoever touches his private part, whether among men or women, ablution is required upon him.”

   سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَا هَؤُلَاءِ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ بِجَيْشٍ قَدْ خُسِفَ بِهِ قَرِيبًا فَقَدْ أَظَلَّتِ السَّاعَةُ»

   ✧ I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say, "O these people, when you hear of an army being swallowed up nearby, then the Hour has drawn near."

   فَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِذَا سَمِعْتُمْ بِخَسْفٍ هَهُنَا قَرِيبًا فَقَدْ أَظَلَّتِ السَّاعَةُ»

   ✧ And I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say, "O people, when you hear of a sinking here nearby, then the Hour has drawn near."

   أَنْ أَلِيَ هَذَا الْأَمْرَ فَكَانَتْ تَقُولُ يَا عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ إِنِّي لَأَرَى فِيكَ خِصَالًا لَخَلِيقٌ أَنْ تَلِيَ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةَ فَإِنْ وُلِّيتَهُ فَاحْذَرِ الدِّمَاءَ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «إِنَّ الرَّجُلَ لِيُدْفَعُ عَنْ بَابِ الْجَنَّةِ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ إِلَيْهَا عَلَى مِحْجَمَةٍ مِنْ دَمٍ يُرِيقُهُ مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ بِغَيْرِ حَقٍّ»

   ✧ that I should take charge of this affair. She used to say, "O Abdul-Malik, I see in you qualities that make you worthy to take charge of this community. If you are appointed to it, beware of bloodshed, for I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: 'A man will be turned away from the gate of Paradise, even though he is able to look at it, because of a cupping-glassful of blood that he sheds from a Muslim without right.'"

   كَانَ لِلنَّبِيُّ ﷺ قَدَحٌ مِنْ عِيدَانٍ يَبُولُ فِيهِ وَيَضَعُهُ تَحْتَ سَرِيرِهِ فَقَامَ فَطَلَبَ فَلَمْ يَجِدُهُ فَسَأَلَ فَقَالَ «أَيْنَ الْقَدَحُ؟» قَالُوا شَرِبَتْهُ بَرَّةُ خَادِمُ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ الَّتِي قَدِمَتْ مَعَهَا مِنْ أَرْضِ الْحَبَشَةِ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «لَقَدِ احْتَظَرَتْ مِنَ النَّارِ بِحِظَارٍ»

   ✧ The Prophet ﷺ had a wooden bowl in which he would urinate and would place it under his bed. He got up and looked for it but could not find it, so he asked, "Where is the bowl?" They said, "Barrah, the servant of Umm Salamah, who came with her from the land of Abyssinia, drank it." The Prophet ﷺ said, "She has protected herself from the Fire with a barrier."

   قَالَتِ اسْتَأْذَنَ أَبِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ قَمِيصِهِ فَأَذِنَ لَهُ فَدَخَلَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ قَمِيصِهِ مِنْ خَلْفَهِ فَجَعَلَ يَلْتَزِمُهُ وَيَمْسَحُ صَدْرَهُ بِظَهْرِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا الَّذِي لَا يَحِلُّ مَنْعُهُ؟ قَالَ الْمَاءُ قَالَ أَيْ رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا الَّذِي لَا يَحِلُّ مَنْعُهُ؟ قَالَ الْمِلْحُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ مَا الَّذِي لَا يَحِلُّ مَنْعُهُ؟ قَالَ «إِنْ تَفْعَلِ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ وَانْتَهَى» قَوْلُهُ إِلَى الْمَاءِ وَالْمِلْحِ قَالَتْ فَكَانَ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلُ لَا يَمْنَعُ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْمَاءِ وَإِنْ قَلَّ

   ✧ She said: My father asked permission of the Prophet ﷺ to enter between him and his shirt, and he permitted him. So he entered between him and his shirt from behind him, and he began to embrace him and wipe his chest against the Prophet's ﷺ back. He said, "O Messenger of God, what is it that it is not lawful to withhold?" He said, "Water." He said, "O Messenger of God, what is it that it is not lawful to withhold?" He said, "Salt." He said, "O Messenger of God, what is it that it is not lawful to withhold?" He said, "If you do good, it is better for you." And his statement ended with water and salt. She said: That man would not withhold any amount of water, even if it was little.

   سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ نُمَيْرٍ يَقُولُ بُثَيْنَةُ بِنْتُ الضَّحَّاكِ أُخْتُ ثَابِتٍ وَهِيَ الَّتِي خَطَبَهَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ

   ✧ I heard Muhammad b. Abdullah b. Numayr say: Buthayna bt. al-Dahhak, the sister of Thabit, and she is the one whom Muhammad b. Maslama proposed to.

   كَانَتْ فِي ثَلَاثَةٍ مِنَ السَّنَةِ تُصُدِّقَ عَلِيَّ بِلَحْمٍ فَأَهْدَيْتُهُ لِعَائِشَةَ فَأَبْقَتْهُ حَتَّى دَخَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ مَا هَذَا اللَّحْمُ؟ قَالَتْ لَحْمٌ تُصُدِّقَ بِهِ عَلَى بَرِيرَةَ فَأَهْدَتْهُ لَنَا فَقَالَ هُوَ عَلَى بَرِيرَةَ صَدَقَةٌ وَلَنَا هَدِيَّةٌ قَالَتْ وكاتَبْتُ عَلَى تِسْعَةِ أوراقٍ فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ إِنْ شاءُوا عَدَدْتُ لَهُمْ عِدَّةً وَاحِدَةً قُلْتُ إِنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشْتَرِطَ لَهُمُ الْوَلَاءَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «اشْتَرِطِي وَاشْتَرِطِي فَإِنَّ الْوَلَاءَ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ» قَالَتْ وَأُعْتِقْتُ فَكَانَ لِيَ الْخِيَارُ

   ✧ In three of the sunnah, meat was given as charity to Ali, so I gifted it to Aisha, and she kept it until the Messenger of God ﷺ entered. He said, "What is this meat?" She said, "Meat that was given as charity to Barirah, and she gifted it to us." He said, "For Barirah it is charity, and for us it is a gift." She said, "And I had a contract of emancipation for nine uqiyyahs." Aisha said, "If they wish, I will count them a single count." I said, "They say: unless they stipulate the wala' for themselves." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Stipulate and stipulate, for the wala' belongs to the one who manumits." She said, "And I was manumitted, and I had the choice."
