✧ The Quraysh invited the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to give him wealth so that he would be the richest man in Makkah, and to marry him to whatever women he desired, and to follow in his footsteps. They said: 'This is yours from us, O Muhammad, and refrain from insulting our gods and do not mention them with evil. If you refuse, then we will impose upon you one single condition, and in it there is good for you.' He said: 'And what is it?' They said: 'Worship our god for a year – al-Lat and al-'Uzza – and we will worship your God for a year.' He said: 'Until I see what comes to me from my Lord.' Then revelation came from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, from the Preserved Tablet: Say: O disbelievers, I do not worship what you worship – the surah. And Allah, Exalted, revealed: Say: Do you order me to worship other than Allah, O ignorant ones? Rather, worship Allah, and be among the thankful.

✧ My close friend ﷺ enjoined me that the blame of a blamer should not overtake me concerning Allah; and that I should look at one who is lower than me, and not look at one who is above me. He also enjoined me to love the poor and be close to them, to speak the truth even if it is bitter, to maintain ties of kinship even if it is severed, not to ask people for anything, and to say abundantly: 'La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah al-'Aliyy al-'Azim' (There is no might nor power except with Allah, the Most High, the Most Great), for it is one of the treasures of Paradise.
