85. ✧ al-'Irbad b. Sariyah, ᴿᴬ

   " يَخْتَصِمُ الشُّهَدَاءُ وَالْمُتَوَفَّوْنَ عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ إِلَى رَبِّنَا فِي الَّذِينَ يُتَوَفَّوْنَ فِي الطَّاعُونِ، فَيَقُولُ الشُّهَدَاءُ: إِخْوَانُنَا ! وَيَقُولُ الْمُتَوَفَّوْنَ عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ: إِخْوَانُنَا ! مَاتُوا عَلَى فُرُشِهِمْ كَمَا مِتْنَا، فَيَقُولُ اللهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى: انْظُرُوا إِلَى جِرَاحِهِمْ، فَإِنْ كَانَتْ جِرَاحُهُمْ تُشْبِهُ جِرَاحَ الْمَقْتُولِينَ فَإِنَّهُمْ مَعَهُمْ وَمِنْهُمْ، فَإِذَا جِرَاحُهُمْ قَدْ أَشْبَهَتْ جِرَاحَهُمْ

   ✧ "The martyrs and those who die on their beds will dispute before our Lord about those who die in the plague. The martyrs will say: 'Our brothers!' And those who die on their beds will say: 'Our brothers! They died on their beds as we died.' Then Allah, blessed and exalted, will say: 'Look at their wounds. If their wounds resemble the wounds of those killed, then they are with them and of them.' And their wounds will have resembled their wounds."

   كَانَ يَسْتَغْفِرُ لِلصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَلِلثَّانِي مَرَّةً

   ✧ He used to ask forgiveness for the first row three times and for the second row once.

   نَهَى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ تُوطَأَ السَّبَايَا حَتَّى يَضَعْنَ مَا فِي بُطُونِهِنَّ

   ✧ The Prophet ﷺ forbade that female captives be had intercourse with until they give birth to what is in their wombs.

   نَهَى يَوْمَ خَيْبَرَ عَنْ كُلِّ ذِي نَابٍ مِنَ السِّبَاعِ، وَعَنْ كُلِّ ذِي مِخْلَبٍ مِنَ الطَّيْرِ، وَعَنْ لُحُومِ الْحُمُرِ الْأَهْلِيَّةِ، وَعَنِ الْمُجَثَّمَةِ وَالْخُلْسَةِ

   ✧ On the day of Khaybar he forbade every possessor of fangs among wild beasts, every possessor of talons among birds, the meat of domestic donkeys, and the mutilated animal and the snatched [prey].

   كَانَ يَأْخُذُ الْوَبَرَةَ مِنَ الْفَيْءِ فَيَقُولُ: مَا لِي مِنْهُ مِثْلُ هَذِهِ إِلَّا مَا لِأَحَدِكُمْ إِلَّا الْخُمُسُ وَهُوَ مَرْدُودٌ فِيكُمْ، فَرُدُّوا الْخَيْطَ وَالْمِخْيَطَ فَمَا فَوْقَهَا، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْغُلُولَ ! فَإِنَّهُ عَارٌ وَنَارٌ وَشَنَارٌ عَلَى صَاحِبِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ

   ✧ He would take a hair from the war spoils and say: "I have no more right to anything like this than any one of you, except the fifth, and it is returned to you. So return even the thread and the needle and whatever is above them. Beware of unlawfully withholding war spoils, for it is disgrace, fire, and shame upon its owner on the Day of Resurrection."

   " إِذَا أَخَذْتُ مِنْ عَبْدِي كَرِيمَتَيْهِ وَهُوَ بِهِمَا ضَنِينٌ لَمْ أَرْضَ لَهُ بِهِمَا ثَوَابًا دُونَ الْجَنَّةِ

   ✧ When I take from My servant his two precious things (his eyes) and he is loath to part with them, I will not be satisfied with any reward for them less than Paradise.

   " إِنِّي عِنْدَ اللهِ لَخَاتَمُ النَّبِيِّينَ وَإِنَّ آدَمَ لَمُنْجَدِلٌ فِي طِينَتِهِ، وَسَأُنَبِّئُكُمْ بِتَأْوِيلِ ذَلِكَ: دَعْوَةُ أَبِي إِبْرَاهِيمَ، وَبِشَارَةُ عِيسَى، وَرُؤْيَا أُمِّي الَّتِي رَأَتْ كَأَنَّهُ خَرَجَ مِنْهَا نُورٌ أَضَاءَتْ لَهُ قُصُورُ الشَّامِ، وَكَذَلِكَ أُمَّهَاتُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ

   ✧ I am, with Allah, the Seal of the Prophets, while Adam was still lying in his clay. I shall inform you of the interpretation of that: the supplication of my father Ibrahim, the glad tidings of 'Isa, and the dream of my mother, who saw a light emanating from her that illuminated the palaces of Syria. Likewise did the mothers of the believers see.

   بِعْتُ مِنَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بَكْرًا، فَأَتَيْتُهُ أَتَقَاضَاهُ، فَقُلْتُ: أَقْضِنِي ثَمَنَ بَكْرِي، فَقَالَ: لَا أَقْضِيكَ إِلَّا لُجَيْنَةً فَقَضَانِي فَأَحْسَنَ قَضَائِي

   ✧ I sold a young camel to the Prophet ﷺ, then I came to him to collect its price. I said: 'Give me the price of my young camel.' He said: 'I will not pay you except with a small silver ingot.' He then paid me, and he gave me an excellent payment.

   قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ذَاتَ غَدَاةٍ، فَوَعَظَنَا مَوْعِظَةً وَجِلَتْ مِنْهَا الْقُلُوبُ، وَذَرَفَتْ مِنْهَا الْأَعْيُنُ، فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّكَ وَعَظْتَنَا مَوْعِظَةَ مُوَدِّعٍ فَاعْهَدْ إِلَيْنَا، قَالَ: عَلَيْكُمْ بِتَقْوَى اللهِ وَالسَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ وَلَوْ عَبْدٌ حَبَشِيٌّ، فَسَتَرَوْنَ بَعْدِي اخْتِلَافًا شَدِيدًا، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِسُنَّتِي وَسُنَّةِ الْخُلَفَاءِ الرَّاشِدِينَ الْمَهْدِيِّينَ بَعْدِي، وَعَضُّوا عَلَيْهَا بِالنَّوَاجِذِ، وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْمُحْدَثَاتِ؛ فَإِنَّ كُلَّ بِدْعَةٍ ضَلَالَةٌ

   ✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood among us one morning and delivered an admonition that made hearts tremble and eyes shed tears. We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, you have admonished us with the admonition of one bidding farewell, so give us a covenant.' He said: 'I enjoin you to fear Allah, and to hear and obey, even if a black slave is appointed over you. You will see after me great discord. So hold fast to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly-guided, rightly-directed caliphs after me. Bite onto it with your molar teeth. Beware of newly-invented matters, for every innovation is misguidance.'

    " اللَّهُمَّ عَلِّمْ مُعَاوِيَةَ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِسَابَ، وَقِهِ الْعَذَابَ، قَالَ: وَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَتَسَحَّرُ، فَقَالَ: " هَلُمَّ إِلَى الْغَدَاءِ الْمُبَارَكِ

    ✧ O Allah, teach Mu'awiyah the Book and arithmetic, and protect him from the punishment. He said: And I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while he was eating the pre-dawn meal, and he said: 'Come to the blessed meal.'

    " إِذَا سَأَلْتُمُ اللهَ فَاسْأَلُوهُ الْفِرْدَوْسَ، فَإِنَّهُ أَعْلَى الْجَنَّةِ

    ✧ When you ask Allah, ask Him for al-Firdaws, for it is the highest part of Paradise.
