✧ He heard Anas b. Mālik say: "The Prophet ﷺ used to visit Umm Ḥarām bt. Milḥān, and she would feed him. She was married to ʿUbādah b. al-Ṣāmit. She fed him and began to delouse his head. He fell asleep, then woke up laughing."

✧ From Qays b. ʿĀṣim al-Saʿdī who said: I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said, "This is the chief of the desert dwellers." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, what wealth is there in which I bear no liability from a seeker or a guest?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The best wealth is forty, and the most is sixty. Woe to owners of hundreds, except he who gives the noble (camel), lends the milch one, and slaughters the fat one, then eats and feeds the contented and the beggar." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, how noble are these qualities! Will no one settle in a valley where I am because of the abundance of my livestock?" He said, "How do you deal with giving?" I said, "I give the firstborn and I give the old." He said, "How do you deal with the loan of a she-camel for milking?" I said, "I lend the she-camel." He said, "How do you deal with the stud camel?" I said, "People come with their ropes, and no man is prevented from a camel he takes and keeps as long as it seems fit to him, until he himself returns it." Then the Prophet ﷺ said, "Is your wealth dearer to you or the wealth of your heirs?" I said, "My wealth." He said, "Indeed, what is yours of your wealth is what you eat and consume, or what you give and spend. The rest belongs to your heirs." I said, "No doubt, if I return, I will reduce their number." When death came to him, he gathered his sons and said, "O my sons, take from me, for you will never take from anyone more sincere to you than I. Do not wail over me, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was not wailed over. I heard the Prophet ﷺ forbid wailing. Shroud me in my clothes in which I used to pray, and give authority to your elders. For if you give authority to your elders, your father will always have a successor among you. If you give authority to your young ones, your elders will be humiliated before people, and they will become indifferent to you. Keep your livelihood in good order, for in it is independence from asking people. Beware of begging, for it is the last earning of a man. When you bury me, level my grave. For there was something between me and this tribe of Bakr b. Wāʾil, small disputes, and I am not safe from a fool who might do something that would bring disgrace upon you in your religion."

  3. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 954Sahih

✧ From Abū al-ʿĀliyah who said: I asked ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ṣāmit: He said: I asked my close friend Abū Dharr, and he said: I came to the Prophet ﷺ with water for ablution. He shook his head and bit his lip. I said, "By my father and mother, did I harm you?" He said, "No, but you will live to see rulers or leaders who delay the prayer beyond its time." I said, "What do you command me?" He said, "Pray the prayer at its time. If you catch it with them, then pray, and do not say, 'I have prayed, so I will not pray.'"

  4. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 955Sahih

    أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ طَرَقَهُ وَفَاطِمَةَ بِنْتَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَلاَ تُصَلُّونَ؟ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا أَنْفُسُنَا عِنْدَ اللهِ فَإِذَا شَاءَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَنَا بَعَثَنَا فَانْصَرَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَلَمْ يَرْجِعْ إِلَيَّ شَيْئًا ثُمَّ سَمِعْتُ وَهُوَ مُدْبِرٌ يَضْرِبُ فَخِذَهُ يَقُولُ {وَكَانَ الإِنْسَانُ أَكْثَرَ شَيْءٍ جَدَلاً}

'Ali reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ knocked at the door of 'Ali and Fatima, the daughter of the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Don't you pray?" 'Ali said, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, our spirits are with Allah. When He wishes to wake us up, we will make up.' The Prophet ﷺ left without saying anything to me. Then I heard him strike him thigh after his back was turned. He said, 'More than anything else, man is argumentative.' (18:54)"

  5. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 956Sahih

Abu Razin said about Abu Hurayra, "I saw him striking his brow with his hand whole saying, 'People of Iraq, do you claim that I lie against the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace? Do you have enjoyment while I have the wrong action? I testify that I heard the, Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When one of you breaks his sandal-strap, he should not walk in his other sandal until it is mended."'"

  6. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 957Sahih

✧ From Abū al-ʿĀliyah al-Barāʾ who said: ʿAbdullāh b. al-Ṣāmit passed by me, so I placed a chair for him and he sat. I said to him, "Ibn Ziyād has delayed the prayer. What do you command?" He struck my thigh a blow that I think he said left a mark on it, then said, "I asked Abū Dharr as you asked me, and he struck my thigh as I struck your thigh, then said: 'Pray the prayer at its time. If you catch it with them, then pray, and do not say: I have prayed, so I will not pray.'"

  7. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 958Sahih

✧ He informed him that ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a group of his companions toward Ibn Ṣayyād until they found him playing with boys in the fortress of Banū Maghālah. Ibn Ṣayyād had at that time nearly reached puberty. He did not notice until the Prophet ﷺ struck his back with his hand, then said, "Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?" He looked at him and said, "I testify that you are the Messenger of the unlettered ones." Ibn Ṣayyād said, "Do you testify that I am the Messenger of Allah?" The Prophet ﷺ squeezed him, then said, "I believe in Allah and His Messenger." Then he said to Ibn Ṣayyād, "What do you see?" Ibn Ṣayyād said, "A truthful one and a liar come to me." The Prophet ﷺ said, "The matter is confused for you." The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have hidden something for you." He said, "It is dukhkh (smoke)." He said, "Be off! You will not exceed your measure." ʿUmar said, "O Messenger of Allah, will you permit me to strike his neck?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "If he is the one, you will not have power over him. If he is not the one, there is no good for you in killing him."

Jabir said, "In Madina, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was thrown from a horse onto a palm trunk and dislocated his foot. We used to visit him in the room of 'A'isha. We came upon him while he was praying sitting down and we prayed standing behind him. He indicates to us that we should sit down. When he finished the prayer, he said, 'When the Imam prays sitting, then pray sitting. When he prays standing, then pray standing. Do not stand while the imam is sitting as the Persians do with their great men.'"

The Anṣār said, "We will not give you the kunyah of the Messenger of Allah until we sit in the road and ask him about the Hour." He said, "You have come to me asking me about the Hour?" We said, "Yes." He said, "There is no soul that will live a hundred years." We said, "A boy was born to a certain man of the Anṣār, and he named him Muḥammad. The Anṣār said, 'We will not give you the kunyah of the Messenger of Allah.'" He said, "The Anṣār have done well. Use my name, but do not use my kunyah."

  11. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 962Sahih

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed through the market, entering from some part of al-ʿĀliyah, with people on both sides of him. He passed by a dead kid with short ears. He reached for it, took hold of its ear, then said, "Which of you would like this for a dirham?" They said, "We would not like it for anything. What would we do with it?" He said, "Would you like it to be yours?" They said, "No." He said that to them three times, and they said, "No, by Allah. Even if it were alive, it would have a defect in that it has short ears; the short-eared one is the one whose ears are cut off. How about when it is dead?" He said, "By Allah, the world is more insignificant to Allah than this is to you."

  12. Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 963Sahih
