✧ On the day of the conquest of Makkah, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ granted safety to the people except four men and two women, and he said: 'Kill them even if you find them clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah: 'Ikrimah ibn Abi Jahl, 'Abdullah ibn Khatal, Miqyas ibn Subabah, and 'Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh.' As for 'Abdullah ibn Khatal, he was caught while clinging to the curtains of the Ka'bah, and Sa'id ibn Hurayth and 'Ammar ibn Yasir raced to him; Sa'id beat 'Ammar—and he was the younger of the two men—and killed him. As for Miqyas ibn Subabah, the people caught him in the market. As for 'Ikrimah, he rode the sea, and a storm struck them. The people of the ship said to those on the ship, 'Be sincere, for your gods will avail you nothing here.' 'Ikrimah said, 'If nothing saves me in the sea except sincerity, then nothing else will save me on land. O Allah, I make a covenant to You: if You heal me from what I am in, I will come to Muhammad until I place my hand in his hand, and I will surely find him forgiving and generous.' He said: Then he came and accepted Islam. As for 'Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh, he hid with 'Uthman ibn 'Affan. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called the people to pledge allegiance, he brought him and stood him before the Prophet ﷺ, and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, accept the pledge of 'Abdullah.' He raised his head and looked at him three times, each time refusing, then he accepted his pledge after the third. Then he turned to his companions and said, 'Was there not among you a strong man who would stand up to this one—when he saw me withhold my hand from his pledge—and kill him?' They said, 'How could we know, O Messenger of Allah, what was in your soul? [Why did you not gesture to us with your eye?]' He said, 'It is not befitting for a prophet to have a treacherous eye.'
