✧ I said to my father: O my dear father, what do you think of His saying: "Those who are heedless of their prayer" — which of us does not become heedless? Which of us does not talk to himself? He said: It is not that. It is only the wasting of the time: he amuses himself until the time is wasted.

machine translationʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. ʿIkrimah b. Ibrāhīm narrated it with a connected chain (musnad) from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr and raised it (marfūʿ) to the Prophet ﷺ, while others narrate it from ʿAbd al-Malik b. ʿUmayr as a statement stopping at Saʿd (mawqūf), and that is the correct one. Likewise Ṭalḥah b. Muṣarrif, Simāk b. Ḥarb and ʿĀṣim b. Abī al-Najūd narrated it from Muṣʿab b. Saʿd from his father as mawqūf, and that is the correct one.
machine translationIt is narrated from Saʿd as raised (marfūʿ), but the mawqūf is more sound.
