✧ When God created Adam, He wiped his back, and every soul that would exist until the Day of Resurrection fell from his back. He presented them to Adam, and he saw in the face of every man among them a glint of light. He saw a man among them whose glint pleased him, so he said: Who is this, O Lord? He said: This is one of your descendants; his name is Dawud. He said: And how long is his lifespan, O Lord? He said: Sixty years. He said: Add to him from my lifespan forty years. He said: Then it will be written, sealed, and not altered. He said: When Adam's lifespan reached the forty that he had given to Dawud, the angel of death came to him, and Adam said: There remain of my lifespan forty years. He said: Did you not give them to your son Dawud? He said: So he denied, and his descendants denied; and Adam erred, and his descendants erred; and he forgot, and his descendants forgot. And he saw among them the strong, the weak, the rich, the poor, and the afflicted. He said: O Lord, would you not make them equal? He said: I wanted to be thanked.
