حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَيُّوبَ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، حَدَّثَنَا شَرِيكُ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ مَوْلَى مَيْمُونَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ:

لَيْسَ الْمِسْكِينُ الَّذِي تَرُدُّهُ التَّمْرَةُ وَالتَّمْرَتَانِ، وَاللُّقْمَةُ وَاللُّقْمَتَانِ، إِنَّمَا الْمِسْكِينُ الْمُتَعَفِّفُ، اقْرَءُوا إِنْ شِئْتُمْ: لا يَسْأَلُونَ النَّاسَ إِلْحَافًا

Translation

✧ The poor person is not the one who is turned away by a date or two dates, and a morsel or two morsels; rather the poor person is the one who refrains from asking. Recite, if you wish: 'They do not ask people importunately.'
