✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ went out one day and came upon Abu Bakr and Umar. He said: "What brought you two out at this hour?" They said: "Hunger." The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "And I, by the One who sent me with the truth, nothing brought me out except what brought you out. Get up." So they got up with him, and he came to the house of a man from the Ansar, but he was not there; only the woman was. When she saw the Messenger of God ﷺ and his two companions, she said: "Welcome and greetings." The Messenger of God ﷺ said to her: "Where is Abu so-and-so?" She said: "He has gone to fetch fresh water for us." While they were thus, the Ansari came carrying a waterskin. When he saw the Prophet of God ﷺ and his companions, he said: "God is greatest," then said: "Praise be to God. I find no people today more honored as guests." So he went and cut a bunch of dates for them, containing unripe and ripe dates, and placed it before them. The Prophet ﷺ said to him: "Why not pick them for us?" The Ansari said: "O Messenger of God, choose as you like." He took the knife and went. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: "Beware of the milking animal." So he slaughtered for them, and they ate from that bunch and from that sheep, and drank from the water. The Prophet of God said to them: "By the One in whose hand is my soul, you will surely be asked about this blessing on the Day of Resurrection. Hunger brought you out of your homes, and you did not return until you obtained this. This is part of the blessing."
