✧ A guest once came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, so he sent to his wives: "Do you have anything? A guest is with me tonight." They sent back to him: "No, by the One who sent you with the truth, we have nothing but water." While he was thus, a man from the Ansar came. The Prophet of God said: "Do you have anything to take our guest with you tonight?" The Ansari said: "Yes, O Prophet of God." So he went with the guest. When he reached his home, he said to his wife: "Do you have anything?" She said: "Yes, a loaf of bread we have." He said: "It seems you are fixing the lamp, so extinguish it, and place the bread." He began to put his hand with the guest, he and his wife, and they raised their hands to their mouths but did not eat anything. They left the guest and the bread, and he ate it. In the morning, the guest went on his way. The Ansari said: "My time came for me to go to the Messenger of God ﷺ." So I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he looked at me from afar and said: "What did you do with your guest last night?" I thought the guest had complained about me to the Messenger of God, so I said: "O Messenger of God, I did such-and-such." He said: "Gabriel ﷺ came to me and informed me that your Lord was amazed at what you did with your guest"—or he said: "He laughed."
