حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، حَدَّثَنَا نُعَيْمُ بْنُ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ

أَنَّ امْرَأَةَ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ جَاءَتْ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ تَشْتَكِي الْوَلِيدَ أَنَّهُ يَضْرِبُهَا، فَقَالَ لَهَا: ارْجِعِي فَقُولِي لَهُ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أَجَارَنِي، قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقَتْ فَمَكَثَتْ سَاعَةً ثُمَّ جَاءَتْ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا أَقْلَعَ عَنِّي، قَالَ: فَقَطَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ هُدْبَةً مِنْ ثَوْبِهِ فَأَعْطَاهَا، فَقَالَ: قُولِي: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أَجَارَنِي، هَذِهِ هُدْبَةٌ مِنْ ثَوْبِهِ، فَمَكَثَتْ سَاعَةً، ثُمَّ إِنَّهَا رَجَعَتْ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، مَا زَادَنِي إِلَّا ضَرْبًا، فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَدَيْهِ، فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ عَلَيْكَ بِالْوَلِيدِ، مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا

Translation

✧ The wife of al-Walid b. Uqba came to the Messenger of God ﷺ complaining that al-Walid was beating her. He said to her: Go back and say to him: The Messenger of God ﷺ has granted me protection. He said: She went and stayed for a while, then came and said: O Messenger of God, he did not stop beating me. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ cut a fringe from his garment and gave it to her, and said: Say: The Messenger of God ﷺ has granted me protection; this is a fringe from his garment. She stayed for a while, then returned and said: O Messenger of God, he only increased me in beating. So the Messenger of God ﷺ raised his hands and said: O God, take al-Walid to account, twice or three times.
