حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنِي نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ وَعُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ عَنْ عَلِيٍّ
أَنَّ امْرَأَةَ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِنَّ الْوَلِيدَ يَضْرِبُهَا - وَقَالَ نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: تَشْكُوهُ - قَالَ: قُولِي لَهُ: قَدْ أَجَارَنِي، قَالَ عَلِيٌّ: فَلَمْ تَلْبَثْ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى رَجَعَتْ، فَقَالَتْ: مَا زَادَنِي إِلَّا ضَرْبًا، فَأَخَذَ هُدْبَةً مِنْ ثَوْبِهِ، فَدَفَعَهَا إِلَيْهَا، وَقَالَ: قُولِي لَهُ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أَجَارَنِي، فَلَمْ تَلْبَثْ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى رَجَعَتْ، فَقَالَتْ: مَا زَادَنِي إِلَّا ضَرْبًا، فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ، وَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ عَلَيْكَ الْوَلِيدَ، أَثِمَ بِي مَرَّتَيْنِ
Translation

✧ That the wife of al-Walid b. 'Uqbah came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of God, al-Walid beats her"—and Nasr b. 'Ali said in his hadith: "she complained of him"—he said: "Say to him: 'He has granted me protection.'" 'Ali said: She did not wait long before she returned and said: "He only increased me in beating." So he took a fringe from his garment and handed it to her, saying: "Say to him: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ has granted me protection.'" She did not wait long before she returned and said: "He only increased me in beating." So he raised his hands and said: "O God, against al-Walid—he has sinned against me twice."
