حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ، عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ حَكِيمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ:

إِنَّ امْرَأَةَ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ، فَقَالَتْ: إِنَّ الْوَلِيدَ يَضْرِبُنِي، قَالَ: قُولِي لَهُ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أَجَارَنِي، قَالَ عَلِيٌّ: فَلَمْ تَلْبَثْ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى رَجَعَتْ، فَقَالَتْ: مَا زَادَنِي إِلَّا ضَرْبًا، فَأَخَذَ هُدْبَةً مِنْ ثَوْبِهِ، فَدَفَعَهَا إِلَيْهَا، فَقَالَ: قُولِي لَهُ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ أَجَارَنِي، فَلَمْ تَلْبَثْ إِلَّا يَسِيرًا حَتَّى رَجَعَتْ إِلَيْهِ، فَقَالَتْ: مَا زَادَنِي إِلَّا ضَرْبًا، فَرَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ فَقَالَ: اللَّهُمَّ عَلَيْكَ بِالْوَلِيدِ

Translation

✧ The wife of al-Walid b. Uqba came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "Al-Walid beats me." He said, "Tell him: The Messenger of God ﷺ has granted me protection." Ali said: She did not remain but a little while before she returned and said, "He only increased me in beating." So he took a fringe from his garment and gave it to her and said, "Tell him: The Messenger of God ﷺ has granted me protection." She did not remain but a little while before she returned to him and said, "He only increased me in beating." He raised his hands and said, "O God, take al-Walid to task."
