✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated on the evening of 'Arafah for his community for forgiveness and mercy, and he increased in supplication. Allah answered him: I have done so and forgiven your community except the wrongdoing of some against others. He repeated, saying: O Lord, You are able to forgive the wrongdoer and reward the wronged with better than his grievance. That evening was nothing but that. The next day, he supplicated in the morning of Muzdalifah, and he repeated supplicating for his community. The Prophet ﷺ did not wait long before smiling. Some of his companions said: O Messenger of Allah, may my father and mother be sacrificed for you, you smiled at a time when you would not laugh. What made you laugh, may Allah make you smile? He said: I smiled at the enemy of Allah, Iblis, when he knew that Allah had answered me regarding my community and forgiven the wrongdoer. He fell down calling for destruction and woe, throwing dust on his head. And he said once: I laughed at his distress.
