حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، سَمِعَ أَبَا عُبَيْدٍ مَوْلَى الزُّهْرِيِّينَ، قَالَ:

شَهِدْتُ الْعِيدَ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، فَبَدَأَ بِالصَّلَاةِ قَبْلَ الْخُطْبَةِ، وَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْ صِيَامِ هَذَيْنِ الْيَوْمَيْنِ، أَمَّا يَوْمُ الْفِطْرِ فَفِطْرُكُمْ مِنْ صِيَامِكُمْ، وَأَمَّا يَوْمُ الْأَضْحَى، فَكُلُوا مِنْ لَحْمِ نُسُكِكُمْ، لَمْ يَذْكُرْ فِيهِ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ هَذَا

Translation

✧ I attended the Eid prayer with Umar b. al-Khattab. He began with the prayer before the sermon and said: The Messenger of God ﷺ forbade fasting on these two days. As for the day of Fitr, it is your breaking of fast after your fasting; as for the day of Adha, eat from the meat of your sacrifices. He did not mention more than this.
