"I was sitting with the Prophet when some drink was brought, so he drank from it, then he offered it to me and I drank it. Then I said: 'I have indeed sinned, so seek forgiveness for me.' He said: 'What is that?' I said: 'I was fasting, then I broke the fast.' He said: 'Were you performing a fast that you had to make up?' I said: 'No.' He said: 'Then it is no harm for you.'"

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Aḥmad ibn Shuʿayb al-Nasāʾī

machine translationThere is disagreement about Simāk concerning it, and Simāk is not relied upon when he is alone in transmitting a hadith.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 749
  • Ibn al-Qaṭṭān

machine translationHe said, commenting on the words of ʿAbd al-Ḥaqq after he had narrated it by the route of al-Nasāʾī, from Ḥammād b. Salamah, from Simāk, with it: "This is the best of the chains of this hadith, even though it is not to be used as evidence." He said: It is as he stated, except that he did not explain the defect, which is the unknown status (jahālah) of Hārūn b. Umm Hāniʾ, or the son of the daughter of Umm Hāniʾ. All of that has been said about him, and he is not known at all.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 749
  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

machine translationThis hadith has inconsistency (iḍṭirāb) in both its text and its chain. As for the inconsistency of its chain, Simāk differed about it: at times he narrated it from Abū Ṣāliḥ, at times from Jaʿdah, and at times from Hārūn. As for Abū Ṣāliḥ, he is Bādhān, also called Bādhām; they declared him weak (ḍaʿīf).

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 749

machine translationThere is disagreement in its chain, and disagreement in its wording.
