Notes

machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: The hadith of ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd was narrated by Wakīʿ from al-Aʿmash, from ʿAmr b. Murrah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā, who said: "The Companions of Muḥammad ﷺ narrated to us that ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd saw the adhān in a dream." And Shuʿbah said, from ʿAmr b. Murrah, from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā, that ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd saw the adhān in a dream. This is more authentic (aṣaḥḥ) than the hadith of Ibn Abī Laylā. And ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā did not hear from ʿAbdullāh b. Zayd. Some of the people of knowledge said: the adhān is in pairs and the iqāmah is in pairs, and this is the view of Sufyān al-Thawrī, Ibn al-Mubārak and the people of Kufa. Abū ʿĪsā said: Ibn Abī Laylā is Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Laylā; he was the judge of Kufa, and he did not hear anything from his father, except that he narrates from a man, from his father.
