Translation

✧ The Muslims were concerned about something by which they could gather for their prayer. Some of them said: a bell; others said: a trumpet. 'Abdullah b. Zayd al-Ansari was shown in a dream that a man passed by him with a bell. 'Abdullah said to him: Will you sell this? The man said: What will you do with it? He said: We will strike it for our prayer. He said: Shall I not show you something better? He said: Yes. He said: Say: Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar; ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah, ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah; ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah, ashhadu anna Muhammadan rasul Allah; hayya 'ala al-salah, hayya 'ala al-salah; hayya 'ala al-falah, hayya 'ala al-falah; Allahu akbar, Allahu akbar; la ilaha illa Allah. He said: 'Umar b. al-Khattab saw the same in his dream. When 'Abdullah prayed the morning prayer, he went to the Prophet ﷺ to inform him, and 'Umar went too, and he found that the Ansari had preceded him, and he found that the Prophet ﷺ had already ordered Bilal to give the call to prayer.
