Notes

machine translationAbū ʿĪsā said: This is a good and gharīb ḥadīth (ḥasan gharīb), and it is more authentic (aṣaḥḥ) than the ḥadīth of Isrāʾīl from ʿAbd al-Aʿlā.

machine translationIt is narrated by ʿAbd al-Aʿlā b. ʿĀmir al-Taghlibī, and there is disagreement concerning him. Abū ʿAwānah narrated it from ʿAbd al-Aʿlā, from Bilāl b. Mirdās, from Khaythamah, from Anas. Isrāʾīl contradicted him and narrated it from ʿAbd al-Aʿlā, from Bilāl b. Abī Mūsā, from Anas, and did not mention Khaythamah. It seems that the correct view is that of Abū ʿAwānah.
