✧ 'Umar ؓ gave the Friday sermon and mentioned the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr, then said: 'I saw in a dream as if a rooster pecked me once or twice, and I think it is only for the approach of my term. Some people are asking me to appoint a successor, but God, Mighty and Majestic, will not neglect His religion or His caliphate. By the One who sent His Prophet ﷺ, if something hastens me, the caliphate is among these six men who parted from the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was pleased with them. I will not leave after me anything more important to me than al-kalala, and I have not argued with the Messenger of God ﷺ since I accompanied him about anything as I argued about al-kalala, and he was not harsh with me about anything since I accompanied him as he was harsh with me about al-kalala, until he struck my chest with his hand and said: "O 'Umar, the verse of summer that was revealed at the end of Surat al-Nisa' suffices you." Then, O people, you eat from two plants that I think are nothing but foul: this onion and garlic. I saw the Messenger of God ﷺ, when he found their smell on a man, order him to be taken out to al-Baqi'. So whoever of you must eat them, let him kill them by cooking.'
