✧ I heard a black man, who had come to Baṣrah with Ibn ʿAbbās, say: "When Ibn ʿAbbās came to Baṣrah, he was told of ḥadīths from Abū Mūsā, from the Prophet ﷺ. Ibn ʿAbbās wrote to him asking about them. Al-Ashʿarī wrote back to him: 'You are a man of your time, and I did not relate anything from the Prophet ﷺ of those, except that I was with the Messenger of God ﷺ when he wanted to urinate. He turned to a soft spot by a wall and urinated, and said, "The Children of Israel, when urine touched any of them, would cut it off with scissors."'" Abū Saʿīd said, "So if any of you wants to urinate, let him prepare for his urine."
