When Ibn ʿAbbās came to Basra, he heard the people of Basra narrating hadiths from Abū Mūsā, from the Prophet ﷺ. So he wrote to Abū Mūsā asking him about them. Abū Mūsā wrote back to him that while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was walking, he turned aside and sat beside a wall, and urinated. Then he said: "When one of the Children of Israel urinated and the urine touched his body, he would cut it off with scissors. So when one of you wants to urinate, let him look for a suitable place for his urine."
