حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ ثَابِتٍ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى، قَالَ:

" مَثَلُ الْجَلِيسِ الصَّالِحِ كَمَثَلِ الْعَطَّارِ، إِنْ لَمْ يُحْذِكَ مِنْ عِطْرِهِ أَصَابَكَ مِنْ رِيحِهِ، وَمَثَلُ جَلِيسِ السَّوْءِ كَصَاحِبِ الْكِيرِ إِنْ لَمْ يُصِبْكَ مِنْ نَارِهِ أَصَابَكَ مِنْ دُخَانِهِ

Translation

✧ "The example of a righteous companion is like that of a perfume seller: if he does not give you some of his perfume, you will still get some of its fragrance. And the example of an evil companion is like that of a blacksmith: if his fire does not touch you, you will still get some of its smoke."
