✧ The first hadith of Abu Musa

أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ الْقُرَشِيُّ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا عَاصِمٌ الْأَحْوَلُ، عَنْ أَبِي كَبْشَةَ، قَالَ:
سَمِعْتُ أَبَا مُوسَى الْأَشْعَرِيَّ ؓ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَثَلُ الْجَلِيسِ الصَّالِحِ مَثَلُ الْعَطَّارِ، إِلَّا يُحْذِكَ مِنْ عِطْرِهِ أَصَابَكَ مِنْ رِيحِهِ، وَمَثَلُ الْجَلِيسِ السَّوْءِ مَثَلُ الْقَيْنِ إِنْ لَا يُصِبْ ثِيَابَكَ يَعْبَقْ بِكَ مِنْ رِيحِهِ

✧ I heard Abu Musa al-Ash'ari ؓ on the pulpit saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The likeness of a good companion is that of a perfume seller: even if he does not give you some of his perfume, some of its fragrance will reach you. And the likeness of a bad companion is that of a blacksmith: if his sparks do not burn your clothes, you will still be affected by his smoke."
