✧ We looked for the new moon, and no one among the people claimed to have seen it except me. I said to Umar: "O Commander of the Believers, do you not see it?" I kept pointing it out to him. When he was unable to see it, he said: "I will see it while lying on my bed." Then he began narrating to us about the Day of Badr, saying: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was telling us yesterday about the places where the people would fall: 'This is where so-and-so will fall, if Allah wills, tomorrow; this is where so-and-so will fall, if Allah wills, tomorrow.' By the One who sent him with the truth, they did not miss those spots, and they were made to fall on them. Then they were thrown into the well. The Prophet ﷺ came and said: 'O so-and-so, son of so-and-so, have you found what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true.' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, do you speak to bodies without souls?' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, you are not more able to hear than them, but they cannot respond to me.'"
