✧ Whoever swears a binding oath in order to thereby seize property while he is lying in it will meet God, the Mighty and Majestic, while He is angry with him. Then al-Ash'ath b. Qais al-Kindi came out to us and said, "What did Abu 'Abd al-Rahman narrate to you?" We said, "Such and such." He said, "He spoke the truth. It was revealed concerning me. I disputed with a man over a well before the Messenger of God ﷺ, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said to me, 'Your evidence or his oath.' I said, 'Then he will swear, and he is sinful.' So the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Whoever swears a binding oath in which he is lying in order to thereby seize property will meet God, the Mighty and Majestic, while He is angry with him.' And it was revealed: 'Indeed, those who purchase with the covenant of God and their oaths a small price' to the end of the verse."
