✧ Whoever swears a false oath in order to thereby seize his brother's property will meet God while He is angry with him. Then al-Ash'ath b. Qais came to us and said, "What did Abu 'Abd al-Rahman narrate to you?" We told him, and he said, "He spoke the truth. This verse was revealed concerning me: 'Indeed, those who purchase with the covenant of God and their oaths a small price—those will have no share in the Hereafter' to the end of the verse. I disputed with a man over a well before the Prophet ﷺ, and the Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'Your evidence or his oath.' I said, 'Then he will swear, and he is sinful.'"
