✧ 'Ali ؓ gave a sermon and said: 'O people, carry out the prescribed punishments on your slaves, both those who are married and those who are not. A slave woman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ committed adultery, and he commanded me to flog her. I went to her and found that she had recently given birth, and I feared that if I flogged her she would die. So I went to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, and he said: "You have done well."'

machine translationAl-Suddī narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Isrāʾīl and Zāʾidah narrated it from al-Suddī, from Saʿd b. ʿUbaydah, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī, from ʿAlī. ʿAbd al-Salām b. Ḥarb differed from them and narrated it from al-Suddī, from ʿAbd Khayr, from ʿAlī; ʿAlī b. Qādim reported that from him. The version of Isrāʾīl is more sound (aṣaḥḥ).
