حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ ثنا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ ثنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ جُمَيْعٍ الزُّهْرِيُّ حَدَّثَتْنِي جَدَّتِي

عَنْ أُمِّ وَرَقَةَ بِنْتِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَزُورُهَا وَيُسِمِّيهَا الشَّهِيدَةَ وَكَانَتْ قَدْ جَمَعَتِ الْقُرْآنَ وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حِينَ غَزَا بَدْرًا قَالَتْ لَهُ تَأْذَنُ لِي فَأَخْرُجَ مَعَكَ أُدَاوِي جَرْحَاكُمْ وَأُمَرِّضَ مَرْضَاكُمْ لَعَلَّ اللهَ يَهْدِي لِي شَهَادَةً قَالَ إِنَّ اللهَ يَهْدِي لَكِ شَهَادَةً وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَرَهَا أَنْ تَؤُمَّ أَهْلَ دَارِهَا وَكَانَ لَهَا مُؤَذِّنٌ وَكَانَتْ تَؤُمُّ أَهْلَ دَارِهَا حَتَّى عَدَا عَلَيْهَا جَارِيَةٌ وَغُلَامٌ لَهَا كَانَتْ دَبَرَتْهُمَا فَقَتَلَاهَا فِي إِمَارَةِ عُمَرَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ إِنَّ أُمَّ وَرَقَةَ قَدْ قَتَلَهَا غُلَامُهَا وَجَارِيَتُهَا فَقَامَ فِي النَّاسِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ أُمَّ وَرَقَةَ عَدَا عَلَيْهَا غُلَامُهَا وَجَارِيَتُهَا فَقَتَلَاهَا وَإِنَّهُمَا هَرَبَا فَأُتِيَ بِهِمَا فَصَلَبَهُمَا فَكَانَا أَوَّلَ مَصْلُوبَيْنِ بِالْمَدِينَةِ قَالَ عُمَرُ صَدَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَقُولُ انْطَلِقُوا نَزُورُ الشَّهِيدَةَ

✧ From Umm Waraqa bt. ʿAbd Allah b. al-Ḥārith al-Anṣārī. The Messenger of God ﷺ used to visit her and call her “the martyr,” and she had collected the Qur’an. When the Messenger of God ﷺ went on the expedition to Badr, she said to him, “Will you permit me to go out with you to treat your wounded and nurse your sick, so that perhaps God may grant me martyrdom?” He said, “God will grant you martyrdom.” The Messenger of God ﷺ had commanded her to lead her household in prayer. She had a muezzin, and she led her household in prayer until a slave girl and a slave boy of hers, whom she had set to be freed after her death, attacked her and killed her during the caliphate of ʿUmar. It was said to him, “Umm Waraqa has been killed by her slave boy and slave girl.” He stood among the people and said, “Umm Waraqa was attacked by her slave boy and slave girl, and they killed her. They fled, and they were brought, and he crucified them. They were the first two crucified in Madinah.” ʿUmar said, “The Messenger of God ﷺ spoke the truth; he used to say, ‘Let us go visit the martyr.’”
