✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ rode a donkey of his called Ya'fur, whose halter was made of palm fiber. He said, 'Ride, O Mu'adh.' I said, 'Go on, O Messenger of God.' He said, 'Ride.' So he mounted me behind him, and the donkey threw us down. The Messenger of God ﷺ stood up laughing. Then he mounted a second time and said, 'Ride,' and I rode. The donkey carried us as far as God willed. He said: he reached back with his hand and struck my back with a whip or a stick that he had, and said, 'O Mu'adh b. Umm Mu'adh, do you know what right God has over people?' I said, 'God and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'God's right over His servants is that they worship Him and associate nothing with Him.' Then he rode on as far as God willed, then he reached back with his hand and struck my back, and said, 'O Mu'adh b. Umm Mu'adh, do you know what right the servants have over God if they do that?' I said, 'God and His Messenger know best.' He said, 'The right of the servants over God is that He will admit them to Paradise if they do that.'
