حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّائِغُ، قَالَ: نَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ، قَالَ: نَا يُوسُفُ بْنُ عَطِيَّةَ السَّعْدِيُّ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي مَيْمُونَةَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ أَمَرَ الْفَضْلَ بْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَنْ يُعِدَّ لَهُ طَهُورَهُ، فَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لِحَاجَتِهِ، وَكَانَ إِذَا كَانَتْ لَهُ حَاجَةٌ تَبَاعَدَ حَتَّى لَا يَكَادُ يُرَى، فَلَمَّا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَاجَتَهُ، أَقْبَلَ رَاجِعًا، فَمَرَّ بِامْرَأَةٍ عِنْدَ قَبْرِ مَيِّتٍ لَهَا، وَهِيَ تُعَدِّدُ، وَتُعَوِّلُ، فَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَيْهَا وَهِيَ لَا تَعْرِفُهُ، فَقَالَ لَهَا: اتَّقِ اللهَ، وَاصْبِرِي قَالَتْ: يَا عَبْدَ اللهِ، اذْهَبْ لِحَاجَتِكَ، فَقَالَ لَهَا ثَلَاثًا، ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَ، فَجَاءَ فَأَخَذَ الْمِطْهَرَةَ مِنَ الْفَضْلِ، فَقَامَ الْفَضْلُ، فَأَتَى الْمَرْأَةَ، فَقَالَ لَهَا: مَا قَالَ لَكِ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ ؟ فَقَامَتْ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا وَيْلَهَا ؟ هَذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَلَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ، فَسَعَتْ حَتَّى لَحِقَتْهُ عَلَى بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ، فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، وَاللهِ مَا عَرَفْتُكَ، فَقَالَ لَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: " الصَّبْرُ عِنْدَ الصَّدْمَةِ الْأُولَى " قَالَهَا ثَلَاثًا

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered al-Fadl b. Abbas to prepare water for his purification. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went off to relieve himself. When he needed to relieve himself, he would go far away until he was almost hidden from view. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished relieving himself, he came back and passed by a woman at the grave of her deceased, while she was wailing and lamenting. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood over her while she did not recognize him, and he said to her: 'Fear Allah and be patient.' She said: 'O servant of Allah, go about your business.' He said it to her three times, then he left. He came and took the water container from al-Fadl. Al-Fadl got up and went to the woman and said to her: 'What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say to you?' She stood up and said: 'Woe to her! This is the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I did not recognize him.' She hurried until she caught up with him at the door of the mosque and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I did not recognize you.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her: 'Patience is only at the first shock.' He said it three times.
