✧ A delegation of ʿAbd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, wearing cloaks with slits, and upon them were signs of hardship. He was distressed by what he saw of their appearance. He entered his house, then came out and ordered that charity be given, and he urged people to give it. Then he said: “Let a man give charity from a ṣāʿ of his wheat, and let him give charity from a ṣāʿ of his dates.” A man came with a purse and placed it down, then people followed one after another until a pile of clothes and food gathered. The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ lit up until it became as if it were gilded. Then he said: “Whoever introduces a good practice and it is acted upon after him, he will have its reward and the reward of those who act upon it, without diminishing anything from their rewards. And whoever introduces an evil practice and it is acted upon after him, he will bear its burden and the burden of those who act upon it, without diminishing anything from their burdens.”
