حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عُزَيْزٍ قَالَ: نَا غَسَّانُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ قَالَ: نَا أَبُو إِسْرَائِيلَ الْمُلَائِيُّ، عَنِ الْفُضَيْلِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي الْحَجَّاجِ يَعْنِي مُجَاهِدًا، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ:

مَسَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِصَلَاةِ الْعِشَاءِ حَتَّى صَلَّى الْمُصَلِّي، وَاسْتَيْقَظَ الْمُسْتَيْقِظُ، وَتَهَجَّدَ الْمُتَهَجِّدُونَ، ثُمَّ خَرَجَ فَقَالَ: لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي أَمَرْتُهُمْ يُصَلُّونَ هَذَا الْوَقْتَ " أَوْ " هَذِهِ الصَّلَاةَ " أَوْ نَحْوَ هَذَا.

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ delayed the ʿishāʾ prayer until the one who prayed had prayed, and the one who was asleep had awakened, and those who performed tahajjud had done so. Then he came out and said: “Were it not that I would burden my community, I would have commanded them to pray at this time,” or “this prayer,” or something similar.
