"My father told, me that my grandfather said: 'I heard the Prophet say: With regard to grazing camels, for every forty a Bint Labbun (a two-year old female camel). No differentiation is to be made between camels when calculating them. Whoever gives it seeking reward, he will be rewarded for it. Whoever refuses, we will take it, and half of his camels, as one of the rights of our Lord. And it is not permissible for the family of Muhammad to have any of them."'

  • M. ibn Ḥibbān al-Bustī

machine translationHe made many mistakes. As for Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal and Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm, they both use him as evidence and narrate from him, while a group of our imams abandoned him. Were it not for his hadith, "we will take it and half of his wealth, an obligation among the obligations of our Lord," I would have included him among the trustworthy narrators (thiqāt). He is one of those about whom I seek God's guidance, the Exalted.

  • Aḥmad b. Ḥanbal

machine translationAḥmad was asked about it and said: I do not know what its meaning is. He was then asked about its chain of transmission and said: its chain is sound (ṣāliḥ).
