أَخْبَرَنِي مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جَابِرٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ فِي سَفَرٍ يُرِيدُ أَرْضًا لَهُ فَأَتَاهُ آتٍ فَقَالَ إِنَّ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ لَمَّا بِهَا وَلَا نَظُنُّ

أَنْ تُدْرِكَهَا فَخَرَجَ مُسْرِعًا وَمَعَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ يُسَايِرُهُ وَغَابَتِ الشَّمْسُ فَلَمْ يُقِلُّ الصَّلَاةَ وَكَانَ عَهْدِي بِهِ وَهُوَ مُحَافِظٌ عَلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَلَمَّا أَبْطَأَ قُلْتُ «الصَّلَاةَ يَرْحَمُكَ اللهُ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيَّ وَمَضَى حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ فِي آخِرِ الشَّفَقِ نَزَلَ فَصَلَّى الْمَغْرِبَ ثُمَّ أَقَامَ الْعِشَاءَ وَقَدْ تَوَارَى الشَّفَقُ فَصَلَّى بِنَا ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيْنَا» فَقَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ «كَانَ إِذَا عَجِلَ بِهِ السَّيْرُ صَنَعَ هَكَذَا»

✧ That it would catch up with him, so he went out in haste, and with him was a man from Quraysh who accompanied him. The sun set, and he did not stop for the prayer. My experience with him was that he was diligent about the prayer. When he was delayed, I said, 'The prayer, may Allah have mercy on you.' He turned to me and went on until the last part of twilight; then he dismounted and prayed Maghrib. Then he called the Iqamah for Isha when the twilight had completely disappeared, and he prayed with us. Then he turned to us and said, 'When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was hurried by travel, he would do like this.'
