الْحَارِثُ بْنُ مِسْكِينٍ قِرَاءَةً عَلَيْهِ وَأَنَا أَسْمَعُ عَنِ ابْنِ الْقَاسِمِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكٌ عَنْ صَيْفِيٍّ مَوْلَى ابْنِ أَفْلَحَ عَنْ أَبِي السَّائِبِ مَوْلَى هِشَامِ بْنِ زُهْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ
أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ خَرَجَ إِلَى الْخَنْدَقِ فَبَيْنَمَا هُوَ بِهِ إِذْ جَاءَ فَتًى مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ حَدِيثُ عَهْدٍ بِعُرْسٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ ائْذَنْ لِي أُحْدِثْ بِأَهْلِي عَهْدًا فَأَذِنَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَقْبَلَ الْفَتَى فَإِذَا هُوَ بِامْرَأَتِهِ بَيْنَ الْبَابَيْنِ فَأَهْوَى إِلَيْهَا بِالرُّمْحِ لِيَطْعَنَهَا فَقَالَتْ لَا تَعْجَلْ حَتَّى تَدْخُلَ وَتَنْظُرَ فَدَخَلَ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِحَيَّةٍ مُنْطَوِيَةٍ عَلَى فِرَاشِهِ فَلَمَّا رَآهَا رَكَزَ فِيهَا رُمْحَهُ ثُمَّ نَصَبَهُ قَالَ أَبُو سَعِيدٍ فَاضْطَرَبَتِ الْحَيَّةُ فِي رَأْسِ الرُّمْحِ حَتَّى مَاتَتْ وَخَرَّ الْفَتَى مَيِّتًا فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ «إِنَّ بِالْمَدِينَةِ جِنًّا قَدْ أَسْلَمُوا فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمْ مِنْهُمْ شَيْئًا فَآذِنُوهُ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ فَإِنْ بَدَا لَكُمْ فَاقْتُلُوهُ فَإِنَّمَا هُوَ شَيْطَانٌ»

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ went out to the trench. While he was there, a young man of the Ansar who had recently married came and said, “O Messenger of God, permit me to go to my wife.” The Messenger of God ﷺ permitted him. The young man went and found his wife standing between two doors. He rushed at her with a spear to strike her, but she said, “Do not be hasty; come in and look.” He entered and found a snake coiled on his bed. When he saw it, he thrust his spear into it and raised it up. Abu Sa‘id said: the snake writhed on the spearhead until it died, and the young man fell dead. This reached the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he said: “In Madinah there are jinn who have embraced Islam. When you see any of them, give it notice for three days. Then if it appears to you [fit to kill], kill it, for it is only a devil.”
