✧ Ali—and Abdullah b. Jafar used to say: My father Ali b. Abi Talib taught me words to say at times of distress when it occurs. He said: O my dear son, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught them to me to say at times of distress when it descended upon me. I singled you out with them instead of Hasan and Husayn. He said: Ibn Jafar used to conceal them from us. When he married off that daughter of his to Abd al-Malik and she set out for Syria, he saw her off and we saw her off with him. When she departed and he wanted to turn back, he was alone with her, and we knew he was teaching her those words. When he turned back, I lagged behind, then caught up with her and asked her. She said—and he mentioned a word meaning: He said to me: O my dear daughter, you are going to a land where you will be a stranger. If distress or grief befalls you, say these words: There is no god but Allah, the Generous, the Forbearing. Blessed is Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Aban b. Salih said: And Muhammad b. Kab al-Qurazi narrated to me from Abdullah b. Shaddad b. al-Had from Abdullah b. Jafar the like of them.
