✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him these words to say at times of distress when it descended upon him. He said: O my dear son, I withheld them from Hasan and Husayn and singled you out with them. We would ask him for them, and he would conceal them from us and refuse to teach them to us until he married off his daughter. We went out to see her off, and when we were at Makhid and she mounted, he bade her farewell privately while she was on her riding beast. I knew he was teaching her those words he had been concealing from us. Then he turned away from her, and we turned away as well. When we had traveled close to a mile, I lagged behind as if to relieve myself, then galloped back and said: O daughter of my uncle, I know that your father was alone with you, apart from us, only to teach you the words he had been concealing from us. She said: Yes. I said: Tell me them. She said: He forbade me to tell anyone. I said: I ask you by Allah—you must tell me, for perhaps I will never see you again after this station. She said: He was alone with me and then said to me: O my dear daughter, my father taught me words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught him to say at times of distress when it descended upon him. He said: I singled you out with them instead of Hasan and Husayn. You are going to a land where you will be a stranger. If distress befalls you or hardship strikes you, say them: There is no god but Allah, the Forbearing, the Generous. Glory be to You. Blessed is Allah, Lord of the Mighty Throne. Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
