What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

machine translationAs for al-Aʿmash, his hearing from Anas is not established, and God knows best. They did not disagree that his ḥadīth is not to be used as evidence where he did not mention it from trustworthy (thiqah) narrators along with its chain, because he used to practise concealment (tadlīs) from weak narrators.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 2502
  • al-Tirmidhi

    machine translationA strange (gharīb) hadith.

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 2502
  • Zarqānī

    in جامع الترمذي, p. 2502
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationSaʿd b. al-Ṣalt narrated it from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Sufyān, from Anas. Ḥafṣ b. Ghiyāth contradicted him and narrated it from al-Aʿmash, from Anas. The statement of Saʿd b. al-Ṣalt is more likely correct.

  • Mubarakpūri

machine translationThe narrators of the ḥadīth of this chapter are trustworthy (thiqāt), as al-Mundhirī said, but al-Aʿmash did not hear from Anas.

machine translationIts narrators are the narrators of the two Ṣaḥīḥs, except Sulaymān b. ʿAbd al-Jabbār al-Baghdādī, the teacher of al-Tirmidhī, whom Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned among the trustworthy narrators (al-Thiqāt). So it is stated in al-Taṣḥīḥ.
