حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عِصَامُ بْنُ طَلِيقٍ الْبَصْرِيُّ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ الْعَلَاءِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ:
قُتِلَ رَجُلٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ شَهِيدًا، قَالَ: فَبَكَتْ عَلَيْهِ بَاكِيَةٌ فَقَالَتْ: وَاشَهِيدَاهُ، قَالَ: فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: مَهْ مَا يُدْرِيكِ أَنَّهُ شَهِيدٌ، وَلَعَلَّهُ كَانَ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِمَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ، وَيَبْخَلُ بِمَا لَا يَنْقُصُهُ
Translation

✧ A man was killed in the time of the Messenger of God ﷺ as a martyr. He said: Then a female mourner wept over him and said: Alas, a martyr! He said: The Prophet ﷺ said: Stop! What makes you know that he is a martyr? Perhaps he used to speak about what did not concern him, or was stingy with what would not diminish him.
