✧ The taking of a pulpit

وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنِ الْمُجَالِدِ، عَنْ أَبِي الْوَدَّاكِ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ؓ قَالَ:

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَخْطُبُ إِلَى جِذْعٍ، فَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ رُومِيٌّ فَقَالَ: أَصْنَعُ لَكَ مِنْبَرًا تَخْطُبُ عَلَيْهِ، فَصَنَعَ لَهُ هَذَا الَّذِي تَرَوْنَ، فَلَمَّا قَامَ عَلَيْهِ يَخْطُبُ حَنَّ الْجِذْعُ حَنِينَ النَّاقَةِ إِلَى وَلَدِهَا، فَنَزَلَ إِلَيْهِ فَضَمَّهُ إِلَيْهِ فَسَكَنَ، فَأَمَرَ بِهِ أَنْ يُحْفَرَ لَهُ وَيُدْفَنَ

Translation

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to deliver the sermon by a trunk. A Byzantine man came to him and said: 'I will make you a pulpit to deliver the sermon on.' So he made for him this one you see. When he stood on it to deliver the sermon, the trunk moaned like a she-camel moaning for her young. He descended to it and hugged it, and it became still. He ordered that a hole be dug for it and that it be buried.
