✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to deliver the Friday sermon standing by the trunk of a palm tree. It was said to him: 'O Messenger of Allah, the people have become numerous and they would love to see you. If only you would take a pulpit to stand on so the people can see you.' He said: 'Yes. Who will make this pulpit for us?' A man stood up and said: 'I will.' He said: 'Will you make it?' He said: 'Yes' - and he did not say: 'If Allah wills.' He said: 'What is your name?' He said: 'So-and-so.' He said: 'Sit down.' So he sat down. Then he returned and said: 'Who will make this pulpit for us?' A man stood up and said: 'I will.' He said: 'Will you make it?' He said: 'Yes,' and he did not say: 'If Allah wills.' He said: 'What is your name?' He said: 'So-and-so.' He said: 'Sit down.' So he sat down. Then he returned and said: 'Who will make this pulpit for us?' A man stood up and said: 'I will.' He said: 'Will you make it?' He said: 'Yes, if Allah wills.' He said: 'What is your name?' He said: 'Ibrahim.' He said: 'Make it.' When Friday came, the people gathered. When he ascended the pulpit and stood upright on it, facing the people, the palm trunk moaned until it made me hear it while I was at the far end of the mosque. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ descended from the pulpit and embraced it, and he did not stop until it became still. Then he returned to the pulpit, praised Allah Almighty and extolled Him, then said: 'This palm trunk only moaned out of longing for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he left it. By Allah, had I not descended to it and embraced it, it would not have become still until the Day of Resurrection.'
