✧ I witnessed 'Ali and al-Zubayr ؓ when they faced each other. 'Ali ؓ said to him: 'O Zubayr, I adjure you, did you hear the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: You will fight 'Ali while you are an oppressor?' He ؓ said: Yes, and I did not remember that except in this standing of mine. Then he ؓ turned away.

machine translationLawīn Muḥammad b. Sulaymān narrated it from Muḥammad b. Sulaymān, a shaykh of his, from Ismāʿīl, from Qays, from al-Zubayr. But this is not from the ḥadīth of Qays. Rather, Ismāʿīl narrated it from ʿAbd al-Salām, a man from Ḥayyah. So said Yaʿlā from Ismāʿīl, and he is ʿAbd al-Salām b. ʿAbdillāh b. Jābir al-Aḥmasī, from al-Zubayr. And this ʿAbd al-Salām did not meet al-Zubayr, so it is disconnected (mursal).
